My first run in w/ the 'Cowboys was back in 1989 when they opened for King's X at Peabody's in Cleveland. The bill was originally supposed to be King's X and Masters of Reality but for some reason they couldn't make it. When I saw GCs name on the marquee I had no idea who they were. When the show started I didn't know what to expect. Their sound had kind of a cool weirdness to it. They hooked me about halfway through their first song.Their energy and sound impressed me. I definitely got my moneys worth that night. After that show I had another favorite band besides King's X. Even though I didn't recognize any of their songs at the time I do remember them playing Kaptain Krude and I'm Not Amused. I would give anything to see or hear that show again or on that tour, it was a very special night.
The next day I went looking for their record but had no luck. It was hard finding info on them(pre-internet). Though when the Awful Truth record came out in 1990 I thought GC changed their name and lost a member! Then FHL by KX came out and I saw GC in the credits as being on Geffen and it really got me confused! I didn't realize I would have to wait almost 2 years after that show to hear their debut! After finally getting their debut it blew me away as well as their other discs including Let It Go. I've seen them live every time they came to Cleveland(except the Overkill tour). I'm sad to see them break up but I look forward to their next projects and hopefully one day a reunion. Thanks Ben,Monty,Wally,Dane and Alan for the great music and live shows!
